The Research Impact & Open Scholarship Librarian provides expert guidance, consultation, and strategic support on the dissemination, impact, and responsible use of Dartmouth research and scholarship. The role supports evolving funder public‑access requirements, copyright and author rights, and emerging open‑scholarship practices, ensuring that Dartmouth research, scholarship, and creative outputs are shared effectively, ethically, and in alignment with institutional and external expectations.
Working collaboratively with research‑supporting teams across the Libraries and campus partners, the Librarian engages faculty, students, and staff on issues related to research publishing, visibility, and scholarly infrastructure, and contributes to campus understanding and use of bibliometric and research output data. The position assesses campus needs, monitors the rapidly changing policy and publishing landscape, and develops guidance, education, and resources for researchers throughout the research lifecycle, providing advanced consultation and institutional perspective in coordination with the Libraries’ research facilitation services.
- 30% – Develop and advance a coordinated program of services, guidance, and education that supports the dissemination, visibility, and responsible use of research and teaching outputs, including persistent identifiers and responsible metrics.
- 25% – Provide expert consultation to faculty, students, and staff on funder public‑access requirements, copyright, fair use, permissions, and author rights, supporting ethical and compliant sharing of research and educational materials. Monitor evolving policy and publishing landscapes and serve as line‑manager liaison on rights and research dissemination.
- 20% – Support Libraries’ and campus understanding and responsible use of bibliometric and research output data through consultation, instruction, analysis, and resource development. Apply analytical approaches to bibliometric data to identify patterns, contextualize impact, and inform research dissemination strategies.
- 15% – Contribute to the development of institutional guidance, best practices, and policy recommendations related to research dissemination, open scholarship practices, copyright, public access, and research impact. Prepare vetted information and strategic insight for library leadership and campus stakeholders to support informed decision‑making.
- 10% – Monitor trends and best practices in library and industry‑based research facilitation and publishing and participate in focused professional engagement activities, including committee service, publication, continuing education, and professional association activities.
- Professionalism – Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others in an inclusive environment.

Education and Experience:
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Graduate or professional degree in a relevant field.
- 5+ years of experience with research impact, scholarly communication, copyright, and/or publishing in a collaborative, complex environment.
- 3+ years of experience with education and outreach activities to a campus community.
- Experience evaluating needs of faculty, students and staff in the areas of scholarly publishing, open access, open education, open data, and copyright.
- Knowledge of current copyright practices, laws and guidelines.
- Knowledge of current scholarly publishing trends, tools and data sources.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, teaching, and organizational skills.
