Pay Range: $1,400–$2,000 per credit hour. Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

The Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs seeks a part‑time faculty to teach 1 open section of Sociology 397‑Criminology (3 credits) for Fall ’26.

Course

Description:

Nature and significance of crime. Historical and modern explanations of crime. Varieties of crime. Issues in measuring crime and assessing its effects. Evaluation of crime control strategies.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200

United.

• MA in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
• Preference will be given to ABD and PhD level students from our program and to instructors who have taught for us previously.

• Evidence of effective teaching experience is necessary.

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meeting all designated class periods.
• Submitting completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
