Fraternity & Sorority Life Student Assistant (STUDENT/WORK STUDY)
The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) is seeking a Fraternity & Sorority Life Student Assistant who will support the development, administration, and promotion of Fraternity & Sorority Life initiatives, programs, and involvement opportunities. This position assists with chapter and community operations, leadership development efforts, event coordination, student support, and communication initiatives that enhance student engagement and community connectedness. The role provides students with opportunities to develop professional skills in leadership, communication, event planning, peer support, and organizational management while contributing to a positive and values-based Fraternity & Sorority Life experience at the University of Michigan Flint.
This position is for a UM-Flint student who is enrolled at least part-time and who is available to work 15 hours per week for the duration of the employment period.
- Assist with communication efforts related to chapter operations, events, and community initiatives
- Support assessment and feedback efforts related to FSL programs and initiatives
- Assist with maintaining accurate chapter and community records and documentation
- Assist with recruitment and retention initiatives for the FSL community
- Assist with the development and facilitation of trainings and workshops
- Provide planning, promotional, and logistical support for FSL events and initiatives, including but not limited to:
Game Night, FSL Forums, Presidents' Meetings, Council Meetings, Composites Photoshoots, etc. - Assist with chapter and FSL processes (e.g., registration, bylaw revisions, academic reports, training modules, etc.)
- Maintain administrative processes and tools (e.g., Campus Connections, etc.)
- Assist with marketing and outreach efforts for FSL events and initiatives
- Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries when representing the Office of the Dean of Students and the FSL community
- Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and responsiveness in completing assigned tasks
- Collaborate effectively with student leaders, advisors, campus partners, and fellow student staff
- Support other ODOS events & initiatives as needed
- Must be an enrolled UM-Flint student for the full academic year with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Be in and maintain good disciplinary standing
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and the ability to develop other computer skills as needed
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- High level of interpersonal skills: can listen effectively and interact with people appropriately and professionally
- Available to work some nights and weekends
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with Fraternity & Sorority Life and student organization operations preferred
Onsite. The work requires, or the supervisor approves, a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
