Job Summary

This posting is for a pooled position. Applications for “POOL” positions are accepted on an ongoing basis. The College will review the pool annually to maintain status. If a position becomes available, candidates whose qualifications match will be interviewed.

Applicants must reapply to the pool annually.

This pool accepts applications to teach core philosophy courses.

Responsibilities
  • Teach core philosophy courses as needed.
  • Act as a team member of the Social Science Department.
  • Communicate course objectives, grade according to those objectives, and report student progress toward those goals.
  • Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages, and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an educational team.
  • Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out‑of‑class contact with students.
  • Prepare course descriptions, course outlines, and other material related to courses taught.
  • Maintain a class roll and teach in conformance with approved course outlines.
  • Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety and health hazards.
  • May require arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate keyboard or other office equipment.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to recognize alphanumeric characters.
  • Requires good hearing and well‑developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students.
Education and Experience

Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position.

  • Master’s degree in Philosophy, or completion of 27 graduate quarter hours in Philosophy or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team.
  • Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Employment Requirements
  • Criminal Background Check – C4 required.
Salary and Compensation Information

Courses are paid on a per‑credit basis. New Part‑time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the pay scale, with steps being rolled once per term, if eligible.

  • Cost per credit for each step on the pay scale is illustrated in Table 1 (reference).
  • Compensation per hour for meetings, training, advising, curriculum development, or other related work is illustrated in Table 3 (reference).
Additional Employment Conditions
  • All new employees must be compensated via direct deposit.
  • Offers are contingent on applicant having Oregon residency at the time of work commencement.
  • Employment is subject to completion of a post‑offer criminal background check.
  • Linn‑Benton Community College does not offer visa sponsorship.
  • Within three days of hire, completion of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Form I‑9 is required.
