Position: LEO Lecturer I - Spanish Fall 2026

Job Summary

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) invites applications for a Lecturer I position in the Spanish section beginning on August 25, 2026 and running through December 31, 2026. This is a full‑time, in‑person position for Fall 2026, with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities
  • Teach three courses in the fall, including sections in the Elementary Language Program and/or upper‑level courses in Peninsular, Latinx Studies, or Latin American literature and culture.
  • Attend course meetings, hold office hours, and handle routine matters related to instruction.
  • Work at an anticipated effort of 100 %.
Required Qualifications
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Prior experience teaching courses in Spanish as a foreign/second language.
  • Minimum education level of an MA or equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced training or degree:
    PhD in Hispanic Studies, Romance Languages, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience with the communicative method of language instruction and teaching in a flipped classroom.
  • Experience teaching inclusive concepts in the context of a language course.
  • Experience teaching additional Romance languages.
Modes of Work

Positions eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U‑M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL‑CIO.
