Job Description
The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida is creating an environment that affirms community across all dimensions. This is a 9‑month tenure‑accruing position that will be 30% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 70% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) in the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department.
Duties- Develop active, nationally recognized research and teaching programs in remote sensing technologies and techniques to detect, describe, and predict threats impacting agricultural and natural systems, and evaluate mitigation strategies.
- Develop theoretical/foundational algorithms in remote sensing and/or sensor development (hardware) utilizing a variety of sensors such as fluorescence, hyperspectral and multispectral optical sensing, LiDAR, and/or GNSS.
- Apply remote sensing to soil and plant nutrients, ecosystem health, natural hazards, land use/cover changes, and water quality.
- Complement existing remote sensing expertise in Unmanned Airborne Systems (UAS) and precision agriculture.
- Develop undergraduate and graduate courses derived from research expertise.
- Integrate knowledge from environmental science, engineering, hydrology, crop/rangeland systems, forest systems, AI, computer science, and electrical engineering.
- Establish a strong externally funded research program, develop collaborations, and promote research activity and leadership in professional societies.
- A Ph.D. (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in remote sensing analysis and modeling of complex environmental systems.
- Experience with remote sensing sensors, applications, and/or theory leveraging multiple sensor platforms.
- Experience developing or using artificial intelligence and other analytical methods.
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
- Supportive of the land‑grant mission and commitment to UF core values.
- Postdoctoral experience and a clearly established publication record in areas related to this position.
