This position is based at Rowan Online’s dynamic and interactive team hub, located in downtown Glassboro, NJ. Our staff thrive in a contemporary collaborative workspace, intentionally designed to facilitate meaningful connections and innovative thinking. The role is eligible to participate in Rowan's Flexible Work Arrangement (hybrid work) policy. The schedule is mostly in‑office with occasional remote days for meetings, events, and occasional local travel.

As an Instructional Designer, you will shape engaging, accessible, and effective online learning experiences in partnership with faculty and academic units, collaborating closely with subject matter experts and cross‑functional teams to design learner‑centered, inclusive, pedagogically sound experiences that reflect best practices and align with institutional standards.

What will you be doing?
- faculty to design, develop, and enhance online courses using the Learning Management System and integrated technologies.
- Apply instructional design principles to create engaging, accessible, and outcomes‑aligned online learning experiences.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for instructional technologies used in online and hybrid course delivery.
- Deliver training, workshops, and resources to support faculty in effective online teaching and course design.
- Review and assess courses for quality, accessibility, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Manage and support small‑scale instructional design projects, including timelines, documentation, and coordination with stakeholders.
- Research emerging trends and tools in instructional design and recommend improvements to digital learning practices.
What do we require from you?
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.
- Experience supporting users in a higher education environment with online learning technologies.
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and integrated instructional technologies.
- Collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop learning experiences that reflect disciplinary best practices. Guide faculty on the effective pedagogical and technical uses of digital technologies within the LMS and integrated platforms (e.g., Kaltura).
- Design authentic and aligned assessments, activities, and content that promote deep learning and active engagement.
- Utilize standardized instructional design tools and frameworks to maintain high rigor and consistency across courses.
- Serve as a trusted design consultant for subject matter experts, providing one‑on‑one support while modeling inclusive, student‑centered teaching practices in all faculty interactions.
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues and supporting diverse users.
- Effective project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and consultative skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
