Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured open-rank faculty to serve as the Didactic Director for the hybrid synchronous and asynchronous format of the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program. This 7-semester PAS program is a blend of online and on-campus activities that provide a similar curriculum to the residential program.
This hybrid position allows the faculty member to live remotely from campus; however, PAS faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Charleston for designated periods for teaching and required program events.
Candidates for the Assistant, Associate, or Full, must have a proven track record of teaching, advising, research/scholarship and service, consistent with MUSC-ranked faculty. The MUSC University is unable to employ remote workers in certain states due to the states’ respective regulatory requirements and stipulations that are not operationally feasible for our organization. These states include Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
Candidates residing in Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, or West Virginia may be considered on a case-by-case basis with institutional approval. Remote positions are not available in U.S. territories or international locations.
The Didactic Director provides administrative and academic leadership for the didactic phase of the PA Hybrid Program. Responsibilities include curriculum oversight, faculty coordination, student assessment, and continuous quality improvement. Ensures compliance with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant standards and institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities- Direct design, implementation, and evaluation of the didactic curriculum
- Ensure horizontal and vertical curricular integration across all courses
- Maintain consistency across hybrid delivery modalities (asynchronous, synchronous, immersion)
- Supervise and support course directors and didactic faculty
- Oversee course scheduling, coordination, and instructional delivery
- Monitor student performance; implement and oversee remediation
- Ensure integrity and standardization of student assessment practices
- Collaborate with assessment leadership to analyze outcomes and drive CQI initiatives
- Coordinate with Clinical Director to support transition to clinical phase
- Lead accreditation-related activities, documentation, and reporting
- Participate in program committees and institutional service
- Chair the student Promotion and Advancement (P&A) Committee
- Provide direct instruction in area of expertise
- Ensure course design (syllabi, outcomes, objectives, assessments, grading) aligns with program competencies and accreditation expectations
- Ensure comparable and equivalent instruction, learning experiences, and assessment outcomes across all hybrid and distributed environments
- Conduct frequent, objective evaluation of student performance and participate in timely remediation processes
- Participate in program self-assessment, outcomes analysis, and continuous quality improvement activities
- Contribute to student advising, admissions, and support activities
- Graduate of an accredited PA program
- NCCPA certification (current or eligible)
- Eligible for South Carolina licensure
- Minimum 3 years full-time clinical PA experience
- Minimum 3 years PA faculty experience
- Experience in curriculum design, instruction, and student assessment
- Doctoral degree (DMSc, PhD, EdD, or equivalent)
- Prior experience as Didactic Director or comparable leadership role
- Experience in hybrid/online education models
- Familiarity with ARC-PA accreditation standards and processes
- Experience with LMS and educational technologies
- Curriculum management and instructional design
- Assessment and evaluation methods
