Job Description for Parent Educator Position SummaryThe Parent Educator provides comprehensive home-based educational and support services to pregnant women, young children (birth to age five), and their families to promote healthy development, school readiness, and family well-being. This role focuses on strengthening parent-child relationships, enhancing parents' capacity as their child's first teacher, and supporting children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. The Parent Educator conducts regular home visits, facilitates group learning experiences, and collaborates with families to establish and achieve individualized goals.
The position emphasizes a strengths-based, culturally responsive approach while connecting families to community resources and encouraging active participation in their child's education.

Qualifications- High school diploma (required); associate's or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field (preferred)
- At least two years of experience working with young children and families in an educational or community-based setting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as needed
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required
- Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
- Conduct bi-weekly home visits with families to support child development and parenting practices
- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum within the home environment
- Facilitate group connection experiences and family engagement activities
- Provide education, coaching, and support services to families
- Conduct developmental screenings and ongoing child assessments
- Collaborate with families to establish goals and maintain family partnership agreements
- Promote parent involvement in program activities, curriculum planning, and governance
- Educate families on child health, including medical, dental, mental health, and nutrition needs
- Provide crisis intervention, case management, and referrals to community resources
- Serve as a liaison and advocate between families and community agencies
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services and interactions
- Ensure confidentiality of all family records and information
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with children and families
- Provide positive guidance and support to promote safe and healthy environments
- Support transitions to preschool, kindergarten, or other services
- Organize and maintain program materials and supplies
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education and/or Director of Federal Programs
- Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions. Ability to communicate clearly, orally, and in writing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
