America Reads/America Counts Online Tutor

The America Reads/America Counts (ARAC) tutoring program is designed to enhance the reading and math skills of Kindergarten-8th grade students in Macon-Bibb County. ARAC tutors provide one‑on‑one and/or small‑group instruction via the Read United Online tutoring program, coordinating their own schedules during the semesters.

• Attend scheduled tutoring sessions.
• Attend all required trainings and meetings.
• Submit timesheets on time on Workday and Bear Pulse.
• Participate consistently in follow‑up, documentation, and evaluation activities.

• Enrolled Mercer student with a federal work‑study award.
• Available to tutor during the school day or after school (3:30‑6 pm) for a minimum of two hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week.
• Pass a background check for the Bibb County School District or nonprofit partner.
• Demonstrate a civic mindset, ability to work with diverse communities, and willingness to discuss issues such as cultural competency, racial equity, implicit bias, and related topics.
• Preferred but not required: previous experience working with children in a mentoring or tutoring capacity.
• Competent in multitasking, time management, and prioritizing work assignments.

Pay rate: $16.00/hour to $17.00/hour, depending on ARAC experience and good standing with the position.

Scheduled hours: 10 hours per week.
