Position: Adjunct Global Campus Instructor - General Education Science (Remote)

The Adjunct Global Campus Instructor position is a part-time, temporary adjunct employment opportunity at the University of Arizona Global Campus. The instructor will teach introductory science courses within the Foundations (General Education) curriculum. Course topics include Sustainability, Resiliency, Resource Management, Climate Change, and the Ecological Impact of Humanity. Classes typically have 25–35 adult learners.

Reporting

Reports to the Head of the Sciences and Mathematics Department.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Emphasize a student‑centered learning environment through active engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Access and Wellness, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and Student Records to support student success.
  • Facilitate and engage in classroom discussion boards, grade assignments, and respond to student inquiries promptly.
  • Complete at least one professional development session per course taught (e.g., synchronous faculty development opportunities, webinars, or course‑development feedback).
  • Creatively use available tools and strategies to enhance relationships, build a community of learners, and encourage risk‑taking.
  • Foster critical thinking by challenging students to elaborate, question assumptions, examine biases, communicate clearly, and defend positions.
  • Provide instructive feedback that challenges and inspires students while offering specific suggestions for improvement.
  • Maintain high expectations and hold students accountable for insightful exchanges and high‑quality performance on assignments.
  • Demonstrate instructor expertise, share personal experiences, and connect course content to real‑world examples.
  • Continuously enhance course content and resources to encourage comprehension and application of course learning outcomes.
Compensation

Hourly rate: $19.25 – $29.97
Full‑time equivalency: 0.475 FTE

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field, and work experience related to the degree area.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate in biology, ecology, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field; college‑level teaching experience; experience teaching in the online classroom.
