Position Overview
Program Director (PD) – Full‑time, exempt, salaried position. Responsible for strategic leadership, development, and oversight of a national portfolio of regional programs and reading centers, ensuring implementation with fidelity and excellence. Supervises four Program Managers (PMs) and works closely with Regional Executive Directors (EDs) to achieve programmatic goals.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of Regional Program Managers focused on quality implementation, yielding measurable results for regional impact.
- Achieve the following portfolio outcomes:
• 85% of students meet literacy growth goal.
• Meet student enrollment and service goals.
• 85% of portfolio sites meet quality standards objectives at key intervals.
• Meet the session goal of students served on average receiving 30‑32 sessions. - Provide feedback and course correction when a region is not meeting programmatic goals.
- Conduct regular 1:1 meetings with each PM and ED; facilitate monthly and bi‑weekly regional meetings; conduct quarterly skip‑level meetings with ACMs.
- Lead data analysis and progress monitoring across sites, translating data into actionable strategies for student learning and school satisfaction.
- Act as a literacy coach for EDs to communicate literacy data to school leaders.
- Support program projects and national initiatives, allocating approximately 30% of the role to national organization support.
- Other duties as needed.
- Travel periodically to Minnesota and Mid‑Atlantic (Baltimore and DC) sites.
- Deep understanding of Reading Partners’ program models, literacy trends, and the educational climate.
- Assess, diagnose, and develop support plans to coach regional staff for program implementation and quality.
- Passion for social justice and educational success for all students.
- Expertise in student performance data, analysis, and strategy development to increase learning and achievement.
- Create impactful action plans with regional stakeholders.
- Build deep, trusting relationships locally and remotely with peers, direct reports, managers, and EDs.
- Set up strong communication systems and contextualize messaging for diverse audiences.
- Break down complex topics for various audiences and communicate independently.
- Model highly effective communication practices to achieve results through others.
- Communicate effectively across modalities: phone, webinars, in‑person training sessions.
- Convey needs, outcomes, and next steps to support regions implement programs with high fidelity.
- Coach, support, and train portfolios to meet or exceed student outcomes and regional goals.
- Provide timely feedback in remote management settings.
- Partner with regional ED leadership for program accountability and action.
- Work with Regional Operations to create action plans for off‑track regions.
- Develop scalable training and knowledge bases for upfront and ongoing training.
- Collaborate with MDNP to share aggregate data and recommend program, curriculum, and fidelity changes.
- 3+ years as a leader in an education organization, 2+ years working with elementary‑aged students.
- 1‑2 years of direct people‑management experience related to literacy work in schools.
- Experience managing a layered team toward achieving literacy or educational outcomes.
- Knowledge of interpreting literacy assessment data to inform instructional decisions and strong student outcomes.
- Proficient computer skills, including Google applications and data management.
- Commitment to improving education equity and access.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a dynamic, collaborative work environment.
- Deep belief in the mission and core values of Reading Partners.
- Legal eligibility to work in the U.S. and at least 18 years of age.
- Ameri Corps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna.
- Experience working in launch or growth phases of organizations.
- Elementary classroom teaching experience.
- Salary: $109,613 – $122,508 (dependent on geographic location).
