Position Summary

The Honors Program Assistant Director supports the operations of the University Honors Program under the Director. Responsibilities include teaching one course in the University Honors Program curriculum each semester, offering required general‑education Honors versions of relevant classes as well as specially developed colloquia courses within the position holder’s field of expertise (25% of role). The Assistant Director provides professional academic advising for Honors students, assists in developing academic advisement support materials, monitors and directs students engaged in internships or FUSE, and develops auxiliary study strategies and tutorial materials.

Regular reports are prepared by collecting and managing student data, monitoring retention and graduation rates, and fostering student success, persistence, and engagement (50% of role). Administrative tasks include overseeing correspondence, managing reimbursements, handling student employment matters, responding to departmental phone and email accounts, coordinating facilities, event planning, and budget management (20% of role). The Assistant Director also offers prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events, meetings, and transcript evaluation, and promotes the value of a 4‑year degree and the UNO general education curriculum (5% of role).

Job Duties Academic Advising
  • Provides professional academic advising for Honors students, including assisting in the development of academic advisement support materials.
  • Monitors and assists students engaged in special activities such as internships or FUSE, developing auxiliary study strategies and tutorial materials.
  • Prepares regular reports by collecting and managing student data; monitors retention and graduation rates, fosters student success and engagement.
Administrative Support
  • Supports the Director with administrative tasks such as overseeing correspondence, managing reimbursements, handling student employment matters, monitoring departmental phone and email accounts, and coordinating facilities.
  • Works efficiently and self‑sufficiently.
  • Plays a key role in event planning for Honors.
  • Manages the program budget in collaboration with the Director, tracking expenses, processing invoices, maintaining documentation, and reconciling financial records.
Recruitment
  • Offers prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events, meetings, transcript evaluation, and promotes the value of a 4‑year degree and the UNO general education curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Teaching
  • Teaches one course in the University Honors Program curriculum each semester, according to the position holder’s area of expertise.
Required Education

Master’s degree.

Required Experience
  • Experience in working with Honors students.
  • Experience mentoring or advising students on their academic journeys.
  • Some general office/clerical experience.
  • Teaching experience as a successful Honors teacher.
Preferred Experience
  • Proven teaching experience and expertise.
  • Familiarity with advising needs.
  • Familiarity with University electronic and general systems.
  • Experience with an Honors program and experience in a university setting.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills, proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, maintaining electronic calendars, and using basic office equipment.
  • Able to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Commitment to working with students.
