Special Education Teacher – Watertown, NY

Milestones Children's Center in collaboration with Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center builds a bright future for every child by bringing extraordinary special education to children in need.

You will join a team of thoughtful Special Education Teachers, expert Speech Language Pathologists, and experienced Physical and Occupational Therapists. Above all, we are committed to helping each other succeed, learn, and grow—all while bringing care to families of children with special needs.

Setting and Location for Special Education Teacher Jobs:

  • Choose from school-based preschool and childcare centers across Central New York, including East Syracuse, Baldwinsville, Fulton, Oswego, Camillus, Pulaski, and Watertown.
  • Travel itinerant home positions are also available in full time or part time.
About the Special Education Teacher Role
  • Provide exceptional care and instruction (80% time)
    • Support the development and education of preschool children with special needs, ages 3 to 5, inside the classroom and alongside the Lead Teacher.
    • Teach basic academic, behavior, social interaction, and living skills using behavior modification and positive reinforcement techniques.
    • Support the child’s understanding of the curriculum and behavior needs through strong, language-based, on‑one interaction.
  • Classroom Culture (10% time)
    • Implement effective classroom management when needed.
    • Help to create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment where children are encouraged to be curious and excited to learn.
    • Help to set and reinforce classroom expectations and routines.
  • Planning and Data Analysis (10%)
    • Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on progress for IEPs of the children.
    • Document your work including notes, care plans, and ongoing progress in our paperless electronic record system.
    • Prepare goals and instructional materials according to the goals established by the Individual Education Plan. Coordinate curriculum implementation with preschool team.
    • Discuss the development of the IEP with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others.

  • A warm, engaging approach with a family‑centered focus.
  • The drive to work hard, to be your best self and to adapt to the constant change and evolution of care for children with special needs.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to share feedback across teams in a collaborative and solution‑oriented way.
  • A degree in Special Education with coursework in early childhood.
  • Licensed or eligibility for a NYS Special Education Certification.
