Job Description

Position Title: High School Science Teacher

Department: Teaching Staff

Reports To: Principal

The Science Teacher will guide students to become critical thinkers, delivering a differentiated instructional program aligned to Colorado State Standards and Paideia principles, supporting school culture, and maintaining campus safety.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum

    Required:

    4‑year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Preferred: Colorado teaching license
  • Previous K‑12 classroom experience
  • Experience at a charter school
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Internet, simple webpage building, electronic gradebook, and email
  • Teamwork and instructional planning experience
  • Conflict resolution and organizational skills
  • Student engagement instructional strategies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, collaborate, and execute a science program anchored in Colorado standards, Paideia principles, and PSAS curricula.
  • Apply developmental knowledge of grade 9‑12 students.
  • Develop instructional activities, including field trips, guest speakers, cross‑grade projects.
  • Model and support positive classroom behavior.
  • Design interventions and differentiated instruction.
  • Utilize literacy assessment tools and data to inform instruction.
  • Employ classroom technologies that support instruction.
  • Support policies and procedures for students, parents, staff.
  • Participate in evaluation system with accountability for professional growth and teamwork.
  • Maintain strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, staff, and administration.
  • Showcase organizational, problem‑solving, and team‑building skills.
  • Commit to lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Participate in after‑school tutoring at least once per quarter.
  • Communicate with families and colleagues to advance student progress.
  • Record and report student performance using the established grading tool.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Work at desk or in meeting configurations.
    • Circulate classroom and instructional environment.
    • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
    • See clearly at various distances.
    • Communicate clearly in normal conversation.
    • Move bodily: bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run, crawl, reach.
    • Carry up to 25 lbs.

    Reasoning Ability
    • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions.
    • Interpret technical instructions, synthesize information, research data.
    • Use intuition and experience to complement data, design workflows and procedures.
    Instructional Environment

    Primary instruction is in the school building daily; remote work is permitted only in cases of school closures and is not considered a reasonable accommodation.

    Other Duties and Requirements
    • Other duties as assigned by the director, principal, or designee.
    • Occasional evenings for field trips, staff meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, and other events.
    • Monitor students before/after school or during lunch and recess.
    Condition of Employment
    • Participation in payroll automatic deposit.
