SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Early Childhood Coach is responsible for providing on‑going coaching for education staff. Supporting effective teaching strategies in the classroom and home visits that lead to positive outcomes for children within the context of a collaborative relationship with parent/caregiver and child. Provides resources, training and technical assistance as requested in supporting onsite education, disability and mental health services. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSystems and Services
  • Collaborates under the leadership of the Education Services Specialist in developing effective early childhood education, disabilities and mental health services.
  • Contributes to developing effective systems for service delivery, documentation, training, and reporting.
  • Utilizes internal Education and Disability Services system, collects, and enters necessary data.
  • Completes coaching and submits coaching documentation according to timelines for the purpose of meeting program requirements.
  • Act as an educational, disability and mental health resource for staff, children and families.
  • Represents the Head Start Program and the agency in the community and with other agencies.
  • Assists in identifying, coordinating and managing any new initiatives, projects or services as assigned.
Communication
  • Utilizes effective communication skills - building trust and confidentiality, careful listening, and asking questions to achieve clarity.
  • Facilitates effective communication, problem solving, planning, cooperation, and follow-through.
  • Assists teaching staff in finding solutions when problems arise by defining the problem and selecting strategies for remedying the situation.
  • Models effective approaches and encourage positive change through reflective practice in a supportive and caring environment.
  • Provide ongoing communication between the coach, center manager, education coordinator, and any other relevant staff.
Training
  • Develops and implements trainings, relative materials and manuals, detailing services, and systems.
  • Provides group, pre‑service, in‑service, and post‑service training and presentation as necessary.
  • Provides information, training, and materials to staff as needed to implement training.
  • Creates and coordinates programming activities designed to support adult learning.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate resources such as Creative Curriculum, GOLD Objectives for Development and Learning, CLASS, and Conscious Discipline to enhance the quality of program services.
  • Utilizes the Early Childhood Knowledge and Learning Center (ECLKC) as a resource as needed.
  • Provides follow up support to staff following any form of training for the purpose of increasing implementation of information and transfer of skill into practice.
Coaching
  • Assess education staff to identify strengths, areas of needed support and which staff would benefit most from intensive coaching.
  • Utilizes the Practice Based Coaching model components for the purpose of assessing needs, engaging in focused observations, and providing reflection and feedback in order to set goals and develop action plans.
  • Provides teaching staff with individual feedback, modeling and coaching to maximize high quality services and effective skills and performance.
  • Responds to short‑term and long‑term staff training needs including recommendations for professional development to improve qualifications and performance.
  • Assists in coordinating and planning professional development opportunities and provides ongoing support.
  • Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships for the purpose of supporting staff growth through the coaching process.
