Salary and Classification

Exempt;
Salary: $50,952 – $81,888 per year (Salary Plan T0-21 based on experience)

Primary Purpose

Provide quality education to incarcerated students and supervise classroom activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must meet State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements for the area of assignment.
  • Elementary or Secondary level certification in a foundational subject area.
  • Personal technology sufficient for remote work duties.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan and direct learning activities of adult incarcerated students.
  • Follow the Windham School District (WSD) curriculum guide(s) for the area of assignment.
  • Participate in district staff development programs, faculty meetings, evaluations and self‑studies required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and contracting agency.
  • Serve on curriculum, textbooks, and other committees as assigned.
  • Maintain lesson plans, accurate attendance records, student progress records, and reports as required.
  • Give clear oral and written instructions, manage student behavior, and create a positive classroom environment.
  • Prepare and use various methods to teach basic concepts and plan activities for individual student needs.
  • Administer diagnostic placement tests, achievement tests, curriculum tests, and other tests as required by the principal.
  • Arrange seating, materials, displays, and implement instructional aids in harmony with instructional aims.
  • Follow all unit procedures for checking out materials, supplies, and equipment, reporting defects or misuse.
  • Apply knowledge and appropriate media in a systems approach to instruction as outlined in curriculum guides.
  • Stay informed of policies of WSD and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods per WSD requirements.
  • Demonstrate progress in meeting student performance targets, action plans, and district or campus improvement plans.
  • Develop, use, and evaluate innovative approaches to improve performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Perform duties professionally with punctual attendance and adherence to WSD policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise adult incarcerated students in classroom settings and may supervise teacher aides.

Working Conditions Mental Demands

Ability to communicate, instruct, reason, compile data, interpret policy and procedures, concentrate, memorize, organize, analyze, maintain emotional control, maintain confidentiality, handle interruptions.

Physical Demands

Full duty performance, lift up to 30 pounds, walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs and ramps, kneeling, stooping, reaching, hearing (with aid), visual acuity, speaking, travel by car, van, or airplane, driving, distinguishing colors, irregular work hours.

Environmental Demands

Work inside and outside, exposure to noise, radiant/electrical energy, machines with moving parts, microwaves, hot and cold temperatures, dust, cleaning chemicals.

Employment Conditions for Retired Educators

Retired teachers of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply. Selected retirees are responsible for reimbursing the district through payroll deduction for the current TRS pension and TRS Care surcharges (16.5% pension, $535/month Care).
