Position: Assistant Instructor (Part-Time), Bachelor Psychology, Technology Assisted Teaching

Role Overview

The Assistant Instructor is responsible for providing instructional and academic support to learners in courses. The support is offered through 1:1 coaching and consultation, instructional materials and resources, and the facilitation of office hours or group study sessions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Build an online community conducive to the spirit of learning and continuous improvement in a positive, learner‑focused environment.
  • Use text, video, and other technologies to create learning resources that drive learner engagement and assist learners with course content and skill development.
  • Lead and comment in course room discussions with learners.
  • Plan and facilitate optional weekly interactive, collaborative study and review sessions that combine content learning with study strategies.
  • Assess learning and comprehension through evaluation of course competencies, including informal assessments or formal evaluations using rubrics for discussions and assignments.
  • Keep up to date with essential technologies, including Civitas, Outlook, Kaltura, and similar tools.
  • Maintain adequate learner records.
  • Check into the course room on weekends and be available for training, team meetings, and learner appointments during regular business hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, coaches, and learners.
  • Effective time‑management and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, initiative, and follow‑through.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and practices such as learning contracts, collaborative learning, and active learning strategies.
  • Ability to assess individual and group learning needs and explain concepts in various ways.
  • Experience working with a diversity of learning styles.
  • Comfortable using technology to facilitate learning.
Work Experience

1–3 years of teaching experience at the graduate level in an online environment is preferred.

Education
  • Completed Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in psychology, or ongoing enrollment in a doctoral program.
  • Alternatively, completed Doctorate in psychology or enrollment in a doctoral program is preferred.
Remote Work Requirements

The position is remote and requires a reliable high‑speed internet connection, a dedicated phone line, a printer, and a suitable work environment free from distractions.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work 30–35 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel (up to 10% of time) and for lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate is expected to start around $20.00, with a range of $18.25–$27.75 per hour. Full‑time employees (30 hours or more per week) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, life and disability plans, as well as 401(k) retirement benefits, tuition assistance, and other incentives.
