Position: Home Educator
Location: Piketon

The Home Educator provides comprehensive family support services to families enrolled in the Early Head Start and Head Start Home-Based programs. This position focuses on strengthening parent-child relationships, supporting family goals, and promoting child development and school readiness through weekly home visits using the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum.

The Home Educator works collaboratively with families, Early Childhood staff, and community partners to ensure high-quality service delivery while maintaining compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, agency policies, and documentation requirements.

Family & Community Partnerships

Estimated Effort: 40%

* Build trusting, respectful relationships with families that integrate their values, beliefs, and caregiving practices.

* Complete Family Strength Surveys and develop Family Partnership Agreements in collaboration with families.

* Provide individualized case management and support families in achieving identified goals.

* Assist families in accessing community resources and services; make referrals and follow up on outcomes.

* Advocate for families with community agencies and service providers.

* Support parents in their role as their child's first and most important teacher.

* Assist families with transitions between Early Head Start, Head Start, preschool, and public school.

* Document all relevant family contacts, referrals, and outcomes in Child Plus.

Child Development, Health, and Disabilities

Estimated Effort: 40%

* Conduct weekly 1.5-hour home visits using the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum.

* Support child development from prenatal stages through age five, including children with disabilities and dual-language learners.

* Complete required developmental, hearing, vision, and social-emotional screenings within mandated timelines.

* Assist families with scheduling and follow-up for health, dental, and developmental appointments, including IFSPs and IEPs.

* Provide prenatal education and support to expectant families.

* Plan, coordinate, and facilitate parent-child socialization activities throughout the program year.

* Collaborate with teaching staff, health staff, and disabilities coordinators to support coordinated services.

* Monitor attendance and address barriers to participation with families.

Program Design, Data, and Reporting

Estimated Effort: 15%

* Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Child Plus, including home visits, screenings, referrals, and outcomes.

* Complete required reports and data entry in accordance with program and funding requirements.

* Participate in program planning, self-assessment, monitoring, and continuous quality improvement activities.

* Maintain organized, secure records and work spaces.

* Request supplies and materials as needed to support assigned duties.

Other Duties and Accountability

Estimated Effort: 5%

* Maintain accountability to the assigned supervisor for accuracy, timeliness, and quality of work.

* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with CAC policies and procedures.

* Adhere to all agency safety policies, licensing rules, and professional standards.

* Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

* Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor and positive representation of CAC and the Early Childhood Program.

* Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Home-Based Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent coursework toward an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or a related field.

Job-Related

Experience:

Experience working with families in a home-based, early childhood, or human services setting.

People Management

Experience:

This position does not directly supervise employees.

Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations:

* Valid Ohio Driver's License

* Reliable transportation and proof of insurance

* Ability to obtain and maintain Van Certification

* Ability to pass annual T-8 physical

* Parents as Teachers (PAT) Certification

* Family Development Credential (if degree is not in a related field)

* CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Child Abuse Prevention training

* Fifteen (15) hours of related training annually

* BCI/FBI background checks

* Insurable under agency policy

Preferred Qualifications

* Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Services, or related field

* Experience working with low-income families and children ages 0-5

* Head Start or Early Head Start experience

* Experience providing home-based services

Working Conditions

This position requires frequent local travel to conduct home visits with assigned families. Work is performed in a shared office environment when not in the field. Occasional regional or overnight travel may be required for training. Work is fast-paced and involves managing sensitive family situations with professionalism.
