Position: Academic Advisor of Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities
Location: Northfield

Overview

Position Title: Academic Advisor of Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities.

Department: TRIO Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities.

Classification: Exempt.

FTE: 0.83.

Work Schedule: The standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; operates on a structured hybrid schedule consisting of four days in the office and one day of remote work per week. This schedule may vary depending on SSSD activities and requires approval by HR and relevant supervisors; occasional evening and weekend hours based on operational needs, as well as travel up to 10% of the work schedule, including both local (Twin Cities metro area) and national travel.

Term: 10 months (mid-June to mid-August off); position is grant funded, continuation of position is contingent upon renewal of funding.

Work Location: Hybrid. WFH 1 day a week. Will work on campus fully for the first three months.

Salary Range: $43,000 - $48,000.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership
    • Advise students on academic, personal, financial, and career issues using data-driven advising strategies.
    • Provide students with information about educational opportunities, financial aid, career exploration, graduate school application, motivation, and self-awareness through workshops and individual counseling/advising.
    • Assess, document, and record students’ interests, needs and goals, and develop meaningful and appropriate academic interventions and services.
    • Compile eligibility information for newly accepted students and for incoming class for data analysis purposes.
    • Co-teach courses specifically to SSSD students as outlined in the TRIO/SSSD grant proposal including, but not limited to Happy Hour and .
    • Oversee the development and continual updating of programmatic policies and procedures while maintaining focus on meeting SSSD grant objectives.
    • Produce and distribute flyers, advertisements, information sheets, and other programmatic materials via our social media platforms and website.
    • Help administer corresponding programming for the SSSD Peer Leaders.
  • Collaboration
    • Coordinate with the Director, Residence Life Dean and Bon Appetit to ensure room and board for GO Week is on track.
    • Organize recruitment efforts with the Admissions Office and Financial Aid.
    • Participate in staff meetings, team development sessions, and relevant committees, as well as build new collaborations with other organizations.
    • Coordinate with Disability and Access and Deans of Students for targeted student support.
  • Supervision
    • Foster a team-based culture that is responsive, innovative, efficient, and service-oriented.
    • Co-lead the hiring and execution of the SSSD Peer Leaders.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised
  • Reports to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services for Students with Disabilities
  • This position supervises student workers.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years’ experience working with TRIO-eligible students, multicultural populations, or under-prepared students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience:

    5+ years’ experience in counseling or related roles.
Prerequisites
  • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St.
