Job Title and Location
Associate Professor – School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida
Location:
Gainesville, FL
This is a 9‑month tenure‑accruing position that will involve 30 % teaching and 70 % research. The appointment is available in the School of Forest Fisheries and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS) and will be completed in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS). The assignment may change according to the needs of the unit.
Responsibilities- Develop a collaborative, internationally recognized, and externally funded research program focused on applications of remote sensing, geospatial analytics, and visualization technologies to marine resource management.
- Create new methods for obtaining and analyzing geospatial information on the status, use, and environment of aquatic resources, including inland, coastal, and marine systems.
- Apply remote sensing and advanced statistical techniques to study spatial distribution of resource abundance, fishing effort patterns, and global extent of aquaculture production.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in aquatic science, natural resources, and geomatics, including delivery to distance‑learning students.
- Chair and serve on graduate committees; supervise thesis and dissertation research; supervise undergraduate research; and publish results with graduate students.
- Seek contract and grant funding actively to support the program and engage in Extension activities.
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaborative projects with partner units such as the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Program, Geomatics Program, Center for Remote Sensing, Water Institute, and Center for Coastal Solutions.
- Contribute to statutory mission areas of research, teaching, and extension, and support the university’s land‑grant, sea‑grant, and space‑grant mission.
- Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in remote sensing, fisheries or ocean sciences, geography, geomatics, or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience applying remote sensing and geospatial analysis to aquatic resources management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, experience in acquiring external funding, and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inclusive education with a record of teaching, advising, or research mentorship.
- Support for the mission of the land‑grant system and commitment to UF core values.
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with online teaching.
- Familiarity with International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) mapping standards.
