Starting Pay Range: $30 - 34/hr
Overview of PositionProvides practice based coaching for Head Start, Early Head Start teachers, Teacher Assistants, Home Based Visitors, and Family Child Care Providers. Conducts observations, models, provides feedback, discusses analysis of child outcomes data and provides coaching/mentoring for teaching staff to improve teacher‑child interactions and child outcomes toward school readiness.
Essential Functions- Provides initial and ongoing training and technical assistance to identified teaching staff and Center Directors regarding program philosophy, policies, procedures, curriculum, and other topics as requested or assigned to ensure the uniform delivery of quality services.
- Assists and/or develops and updates procedures for instructional outcomes, curriculum implementation, child assessment, and cultural and linguistic responsiveness.
- Maintains reliability in the CLASS assessment tool.
- Designs classroom assessment plans for ongoing program improvement.
- Analyzes data from the CLASS observation tool and supports staff professional development through staff trainings designed to improve the use of evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Collaborates with the Manager, ECE and field staff, assists in developing and evaluating program goals and objectives in Early Childhood Education and School Readiness.
- Monitors the implementation of a developmentally and linguistically appropriate approach to child development and education.
- Monitors and documents provisions and progressions in Early Childhood Education outcomes and school readiness.
- Designs and implements staff trainings to address continuous improvement in child readiness outcomes based on data collected from classrooms and current research.
- Provides input and recommendations on staff performance to Center Directors, Early Childhood Education Manager and other management staff for performance appraisal and corrective action purposes.
- Facilitates and coordinates meetings and trainings as assigned or in coordination with the Manager, ECE.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development and/or related field.
- Must possess and maintain a Child Development Permit (Master Teacher or higher) and meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for child development permit/CDA requirements.
- Must have 3 to 6 units of an infant/toddler class from an accredited college with a B grade or better.
- Must possess and maintain current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR first aid certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a food handler’s certificate.
- Documented 3 to 5 years’ experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
- Documented 3 years’ experience providing technical assistance, training, coaching or consultation support.
- Experience with observation documentation/assessment, curriculum process, developmentally appropriate practices, and designing and implementing quality early childhood learning environments.
- Knowledge of child development and current research‑based pedagogy, curriculum resources, adequate classroom management techniques, and reflective practice mentor/coaching strategies.
- Knowledge of HS/EHS performance standards.
- Knowledge of adult learning techniques.
- Knowledge of developmental milestones of infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
- Must complete California‑mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training (per Healthy Schools Act) prior to beginning work.
- Prior experience with developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood family services.
- Experience working with diverse families with very young children.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Skype).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Sustained concentration, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
