Job Summary
The Instructional Designer will provide instructional design expertise, consultation, and guidance for the design and development of courses, modules, and whole curriculum activities for synchronous and asynchronous delivery, quality assurance processes, and online faculty development and support.
Minimum QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Instructional Design or a similar, related field
Knowledge- Learning management systems, e-learning technologies, and digital pedagogy. Instructional design learning theories and instructional design models.
- Assessment and evaluation methodologies, online learning regulations, and accessibility. Adult learning principles and pedagogical approaches.
- Needs assessment, task analysis, learning outcome development, and curriculum design.
- Project management, communication, stakeholder engagement, and team collaboration.
- Research and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail, time management, organization, and adaptability.
- Possess a diverse range of skills ensuring the success of digital learning initiatives.
- Creative, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching abilities.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and resiliency to change.
- Empathy, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create engaging and effective digital content that aligns with the intended learning objectives.

- Prior working experience in instructional design and curriculum development preferably for online environments, advanced knowledge of educational technology, adult learning principles, facilitation, and learner-centered design is required.
- Some experience in instructional design theories and methods.
- Some experience overseeing all aspects of the course development process is appropriately organized, coordinated, and executed.
- Some experience managing project timelines and communication with faculty and teams to align project goals and objectives.
This is a hybrid position in Norfolk, VA working a traditional work-week. The position requires three days on campus each week with two remote work days. The hybrid status is subject to change based on the needs of institution. The equipment provided to staff with approved telework agreements enables them to deliver vital services to University faculty, staff, and students from remote locations.
Many of our operations can and should continue as usual, even when the main physical campus is closed. Therefore, all Digital Transformation & Technology employees with an approved telework agreement are generally expected to work during official University closures.
