Job SummaryThe Assistant Director for Instructional Design, Engagement and Assistance (IDEA) supports the development of innovative online courses and programs, provides personalized technical and pedagogical faculty support, manages faculty and student feedback collection and reporting, and supervises the Instructional Technology Coordinator and Specialist. The role focuses on managing online course technologies and faculty development within AU Online, and ensures that course experiences meet program specifications, institutional expectations for rigor, quality, and scalability.
Responsibilities- Consult with faculty on best practices in online teaching and provide ongoing technical and pedagogical support.
- Maintain a schedule for regular faculty support and respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Collect instructor feedback, recommend course changes through the Mojo Helpdesk, and maintain a log of revised sections and primary shells.
- Conduct needs assessments and develop faculty development resources in multiple modalities (online modules, synchronous sessions, professional learning communities).
- Collaborate with the IDEA team and faculty to produce faculty development opportunities and generate detailed engagement reports.
- Manage the faculty recognition program and implement a faculty communication plan.
- Collect and report feedback data from faculty and students, and recommend improvements to the IDEA team.
- Supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and Specialist, approving time off and advising on task prioritization and performance.
- Update knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to faculty development, course data collection, and leadership; present or publish scholarship related to educational technology and instructional design.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field, with five or more years of experience in higher education supporting faculty and online education, plus at least one year of teaching experience. Proven ability to collect data to inform continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience designing asynchronous, synchronous, and hybrid instruction.
- Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience at a higher education institution.
- Demonstrated success improving faculty teaching and learning using learning management systems.
- Experience using LMS, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, and web authoring tools to create online learning environments.
- Ability to apply learning‑design strategies that support student outcomes.
- Experience developing and facilitating professional development for faculty.
- Direct experience with D2L and Kaltura.
- Working with faculty to improve online teaching and ensuring courses meet SACSCOC requirements.
- Managing direct reports and collecting student/faculty data for continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and online teaching best practices.
- Understanding of SACSCOC requirements for online education.
- Active listening, effective communication in written, oral, and visual formats.
- Interpretation of educational technology tools (Desire2
Learn, Echo
360, MS Teams, Adobe Creative Cloud, Respondus, Anthology). - Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and guide faculty in using campus technologies.
- Proficient in authoring WCAG 2.0 compliant content.
- Effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external clients.
- Comfortable working independently or in a distributed collaborative environment.
Pay Band: B14;
Salary minimum $75,300/annual, commensurate with qualifications. Recruitment Period: 5/14/2026 – Until Filled.
