Academic Advisor - Tippie College of Business

The Tippie College of Business seeks candidates for an Academic Advisor in their Undergraduate Program Office. The position is responsible for advising undergraduate business students on issues including four‑year degree planning, major selection, and academic and professional goals, in addition to participating in the administration of programs, policies, and procedures related to the College and University. This position is eligible to work one day from home.

Immediate availability is preferred.

Mission

The Undergraduate Program of the Tippie College of Business transforms students into business professionals. We advise and support students as they navigate a collection of challenging in‑and out‑of‑class learning experiences. Our three priorities: (A) attract and retain a varied and talented student body, (B) facilitate degree progress within a rigorous curriculum, and (C) provide challenging out‑of‑class experiential learning opportunities.

Job Duties and Tasks
  • Provide holistic advising to both prospective and current undergraduate business students regarding academic career and goals, including course planning and registration, majors and degree requirements, opportunities for involvement, and policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice to incoming first‑year students during summer orientation sessions.
  • Make referrals to appropriate resources to support student success.
  • Assist students in identifying interests, abilities, and making decisions about their academic and future professional career goals.
  • Identify issues that may create barriers to student success and retention.
  • Serve as Tippie Undergraduate Program Office liaison for an academic program within the Tippie College of Business.
  • Provide additional programmatic support within the first year of employment, determined by department needs and interest areas.
Work Arrangement

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and requires a work arrangement form to be completed upon employment. Work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience, typically 1‑2 years, in direct student contact at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful environment for student success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated constructive and collaborative relationship‑building skills with a variety of individuals and groups, including peers, leadership, and external constituents.
