Job Description

Virtual Academy Instructor – 60% work primarily online. Applicants will be eligible for health insurance coverage.

Oklahoma Teaching Certification Required. 10‑month contract. Work days are generally 7 hours and 20 minutes, exclusive of a 30‑minute duty‑free lunch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establishes and implements online and offline procedures designed to maximize student learning in an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares detailed weekly written lesson plans consistent with Oklahoma Academic Standards, specifically designed to teach skills on course curriculum maps and submits them to the assigned principal.
  • Complies with and fully implements all Individualized Education Plans and behavioral or academic interventions.
  • Handles routine matters with students fairly.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the virtual setting, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Attends and participates in all required meetings and conferences, including professional development and planning meetings, and continually strives for professional growth.
  • Maintains complete and accurate student records, including attendance, performance and discipline records.
  • Provides professional and regular feedback to students and parents, ensuring compliance with all laws and district policies and procedures, and communicates regularly with parents by means of notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Coordinates with parents and students on required on‑site meetings (testing, tutoring, PT conferences, etc.).
  • Uses professional behavior in all school‑related interactions.
  • Complies with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.
  • Uses formative and summative data to guide instruction, plans for student interventions, and communicates progress to parents. Monitors all software for student progress toward course completion.
  • Provides individualized and small‑group instruction, adapting the curriculum as needed.
  • Provides a technology‑enriched environment to support student learning.
  • Maintains availability to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of teacher assistants, parents, and volunteers.
  • Collaborates with other professionals to enrich and improve students’ academic progress.
  • Teaches and encourages good citizenship.
  • Communicates effectively with parents.
  • Creates a classroom climate conducive to learning through functional and attractive displays, learning centers and exhibits of student work.
  • To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor.
  • Job Requirements

    Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in assigned subject(s). Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to use virtual instruction technology effectively.

    Essential Requirements:
    Stand for extended periods; walk; bend and reach; repetitive hand use; lift/move up to 15 pounds; occasional lift up to 25 pounds; ability to administer CPR; visual and hearing skills adequate for exchanging information.
