The successful applicant will provide instruction in a full range of Child Development and Education (CHDV/EDUC) courses.
Representative Duties- Teach and facilitate courses in Child Development and Education.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop and revise curriculum.
- Use computer and multimedia technology to support instruction.
- Conduct collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Preferred bilingual/Spanish‑speaking.
- Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and a Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR
- Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Child Development and Education at the California Community College level; OR
- Equivalent qualifications that meet the minimum requirements as judged by the screening committee.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
