Basic Function

The successful applicant will provide instruction in a full range of Child Development and Education (CHDV/EDUC) courses.

Representative Duties
  • Teach and facilitate courses in Child Development and Education.
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the department.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop and revise curriculum.
  • Use computer and multimedia technology to support instruction.
  • Conduct collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Preferred bilingual/Spanish‑speaking.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and a Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR
  • Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Child Development and Education at the California Community College level; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications that meet the minimum requirements as judged by the screening committee.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
  • Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
  • Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
