Adjunct Instructors facilitate student learning and continually develop instructional strategies that promote student success. The role focuses on General Biology, covering cell structure, genetics, evolution, and taxonomical relationships, with an emphasis on environmental perspectives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Learning Facilitation – design and implement instructional strategies that meet diverse student needs and support engagement across hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online delivery.
- Assessment – evaluate student learning, provide regular feedback, and use data to improve persistence, retention, and course outcomes.
- Classroom Management – maintain schedules, attendance, grading records, safety and housekeeping, and assess student engagement.
- Team Participation – collaborate with division, department, and teams to stay current with internal and external changes.
- Business & Community Engagement – build relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners to promote the college and its programs.
- Student Success & Support – advocate for students and work with Student Services to close achievement gaps and promote success.
- Professional Development – pursue emerging trends, occupational practices, and technology integration; meet Faculty Quality Assurance System and accreditation requirements.
- A Master’s degree in biology or a related discipline, OR a Master’s degree plus 18 graduate credits in the discipline, OR a Master’s degree with appropriate licensure in the discipline.
- Graduate‑level courses in the discipline/subfield and teaching methods may satisfy the 18 graduate credit hour minimum when evaluated individually.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficient use of learning management systems.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adaptability to changing demands and assignments.
- Professional development and innovation in instruction.
- Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
- Maintain qualifications per FVTC requirements throughout employment.
- Meet HLC, FQAS, and other licensing standards.
- Background check (criminal record review) performed prior to hire.
- Mobility – move around the classroom.
- Standing and Sitting – extended periods during lectures and office hours.
- Speech and Hearing – clear speech and ability to hear students.
- Fine Motor Skills – precise hand movements for writing, demonstrations, and technology use.
- Visual Acuity – sufficient vision to read materials and operate equipment.
- Health and Safety – ensure a safe learning environment and follow safety protocols.
- Repetitive Motions – typing and other repetitive tasks.
- Communication – clear verbal and written communication with stakeholders.
- Primarily performed in a classroom setting.
- May be taught virtually or in a hybrid environment.

Additional InformationHourly pay rate: $45.00. Typical adjunct hours range from 3 to 8 hours per week, including day, evening, and weekend classes across traditional classroom and alternative delivery formats.
