The Alternative Learning Center (ALC) Teacher and Online Learning Coordinator provides educational leadership and direct instruction for students enrolled in the alternative learning center and credit‑recovery programs. The coordinator maintains a supportive and structured environment for at‑risk students while managing teaching and learning digital curricula, coordinating individualized transition plans, and ensuring full compliance with Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) guidelines and ISD 361 board policy.
The online program coordination oversight directly works with the digital partner platform team and monitors student performance and pathway support.
- Facilitate all online learning, credit‑recovery, and digital course platforms (e.g., Edgenuity, MDE‑approved digital curricula).
- Monitor students’ completion of coursework and log appropriate digital attendance in compliance with MDE requirements.
- Maintain accurate records within the virtual learning management system and coordinate with the partner program provider.
- Support students who fall into at‑risk performance categories.
- Provide instructional support across multi‑disciplinary core subject areas for alternative program students.
- Adapt and modify instructional materials to accommodate diverse, non‑traditional learning styles and individual student needs.
- Foster a positive, trauma‑informed classroom environment that motivates and engages at‑risk youth.
- Monitor student attendance, family engagement, and student performance through home/school and community partnerships.
- Implement ALC standards of practice and data collection aligned to MDE requirements.
- Support students who fall into deficit alternative learning standards.
- Track academic progress and attendance for all ALC‑enrolled students; maintain individualized student success plans.
- Monitor credit accumulation and ensure students progress toward graduation requirements.
- Identify and respond promptly to barriers to student success, including academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional factors.
- Maintain regular, two‑way communication with students’ guardians, school counselors, and home school districts.
- Provide timely progress updates and collaborate with support staff to address academic and attendance concerns.
- Participate in student‑centered meetings including IEP, 504, and student support team conferences as applicable.
- Collaborate with regular school settings, career and technical centers, and local businesses to support student transitions.
- Develop and monitor transition plans for students re‑entering the traditional school setting or moving into work‑based learning and post‑secondary pathways.
- Track attendance data and prepare required documentation for state‑funded alternative programs per MDE guidelines.
- Maintain confidential student files in compliance with FERPA and ISD 361 records management policies.
- Submit required reports to the school board and district administration on program enrollment, outcomes, and compliance.
- Valid Minnesota teaching license; secondary education preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with at‑risk youth and managing individualized student success plans.
- Proficiency with online learning platforms (e.g., Edgenuity), Infinite Campus—digital attendance systems, and student information systems.
