Position Description

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is a dynamic and exciting place to work. This position offers an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students as the Outreach and Recruitment team responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University. The Admissions Counselor reports to an Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment.

The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work closely and alongside a team of full-time staff members of approximately 30 and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55. Peak seasons are typically August through May given the cyclical nature of the work supported across Undergraduate Admissions. In office or hybrid work hours (3 days in office, 2 days work from home) can range from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening, and weekend hours at various times during the year given the role's direct work with outreach and recruitment programs occurring in varying international time zones.

Responsibilities
  • Managing a recruitment territory (e.g., Columbus).
  • Executing territory‑specific recruitment activities and events in collaboration with partner offices using data, reports, and analysis tools/technology.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with high schools, community‑based organizations, and community colleges.
  • Traveling to high schools, community colleges, and college fairs to represent Ohio State University; travel may be up to 10 weeks per year, potentially 3–4 consistent weeks in a given semester.
  • Making recruitment calls to prospective students.
  • Monitoring a territory‑specific budget.
  • Analyzing prospective student data.
  • Learning and using the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA) system, Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other technologies to enter data regarding student applications, call/email activity, and other processes, performing data validation.
  • Managing electronic workflows.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Counseling and corresponding with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding admissions policies, procedures, and general information over the phone, via email, and in person.
  • Conducting large and small‑group presentations.
  • Learning and maintaining knowledge of the office and university to best redirect questions from staff and guests.
  • Researching and resolving problems.
  • Assisting with on‑ and off‑campus recruitment events and projects.
  • Coordinating recruitment for special programs, such as transfer, veterans, and College Credit Plus.
  • Providing support to access, on‑/off‑campus programs and initiatives.
  • Reviewing applications (domestic, international, transfer, special populations) and making admissions recommendations through the holistic review process; time commitment varies throughout the year.
  • Participating as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through committee membership.
  • Completing special assignments and other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate field.
  • Familiarity with office desktop technology.
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend hours are required.
Desired Education/Experience
  • 1–2 years of work experience at a college or university; admissions preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate.
  • Program planning and implementation experience.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of CRM and other recruitment technology platforms.
Salary Range

Salary range for this position is $17.50 – $18.99 per hour.
