Adjunct Instructor of Occupational Safety

Compensation

$32.75 - $45.63 per hour

Adjunct faculty serve as temporary part-time faculty and are appointed as needed on a semester‑by‑semester basis. The primary duty is effective teaching of college‑level courses and/or labs in the qualified discipline.

San Juan College may approve remote or hybrid work for adjunct employees within New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas (states subject to change at any time). All requests for remote work must be approved in advance by the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work options for locations outside of the United States are not permitted.

• Prepares and teaches online courses; delivers lectures, assignments and tests timely.
• Evaluates and records student performance.
• Provides reasonable and substantive interaction to students and assesses completion of student learning outcomes.
• Resolves student issues and concerns or refers to coordinator.
• Communicates with the coordinator either in person, email, or phone.
• Performs related duties.

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational safety field.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years of experience or service.
• Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester basis, depending upon the instructional needs identified for each semester.
• Adjunct faculty may teach no more than nine credit hours per semester, except upon approval by the Vice‑President of Learning and the Associate Vice‑President of HR and Legal Activities.

• Pay biweekly at either $778 per credit hour, or at an hourly rate as applicable.
• Eligible for tuition waiver for one (1) credit class or more; waiver may cover up to four (4) credit hours per semester and any one HHPC Fitness Conditioning class.
• Tuition waiver may be transferred to a qualified family member for the semester they are employed.
• Free professional development (technology training; teaching and learning seminars; learning symposiums).
• Free library services (CD and DVD checkout; book and periodical checkout).
• 403(b) participation.
• Employee assistance program available 24/7 – provides three free sessions for counseling, assessments, referrals, prevention/education resources, and crisis intervention.

• For three or more credit hours, Educational Retirement Board (ERB) contributions withheld each pay period.
• State and federal taxes, FICA and social security will be withheld for all adjunct faculty.
