Campus – Fall Semester 2026, Tuesday 6:30 PM–9:30 PM, Shaffer Art Building 121 (08/25/2026 – 12/08/2026). Office hours are required.

Job Description

The Department of Film and Media Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part‑Time Instructor to teach FIL 250 M001 Topics in Film History & Culture:
Horror, Culture & Violence, a 3‑credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026. This is a special‑topics course covering roughly four overlapping themes in horror, including eco‑horror, horror noir, women and horror, and horror as social metaphor.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200

United.

Qualifications
  • MFA in Film, Cinema Studies or related discipline.
  • Applicants with an advanced degree or equivalent professional experience are equally encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 3 years of college‑level teaching experience, with demonstrated ability to teach courses in cinematography, film aesthetics, or international/auteur cinema at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Expertise in the history and theory of film with emphasis in the subject area.
  • Familiarity with global film practice.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach one class per week.
  • Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • If unable to teach a class due to illness or emergency, exercise best effort to reschedule or obtain a substitute.
  • Notify the department chair of your absence and plans to cover the class.
  • Submit completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
