Pay Range: $1,483.20 – $1,751 per credit hour.

Job DescriptionThe Department of Film and Media Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part‑Time Instructor to teach FIL 250 M001 Topics in Film History & Culture:
Horror, Culture & Violence, a 3‑credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026. This is a special‑topics course covering roughly four overlapping themes in horror, including eco‑horror, horror noir, women and horror, and horror as social metaphor.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200
United.
- MFA in Film, Cinema Studies or related discipline.
- Applicants with an advanced degree or equivalent professional experience are equally encouraged to apply.
- Minimum 3 years of college‑level teaching experience, with demonstrated ability to teach courses in cinematography, film aesthetics, or international/auteur cinema at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Expertise in the history and theory of film with emphasis in the subject area.
- Familiarity with global film practice.
- Prepare and teach one class per week.
- Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
- Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
- Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meet all designated class periods.
- If unable to teach a class due to illness or emergency, exercise best effort to reschedule or obtain a substitute.
- Notify the department chair of your absence and plans to cover the class.
- Submit completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
