About Us

iMentor matches high school students (mentees) one-on-one with volunteer adult mentors based on shared career and personal interests. Mentors and mentees form pairs for a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years, cultivating their relationship through a combination of weekly written messages and monthly in‑person meetings.

iMentor is changing the face of youth mentoring. The program demonstrates that even the busiest, most successful New Yorkers have time to be quality mentors and that formal mentoring increases the rate at which young people graduate from college, benefiting both individuals and society at large.

iMentor uses mentoring to bridge the divide between New York City’s diverse communities, creating unique and dynamic relationships that would not have been possible without the program. By exposing both mentors and mentees to new facets of their shared city, iMentor facilitates meaningful connections, empowering youth with the skills and resources critical for personal, academic, and career success.

Every student deserves a champion.

About You

Our mentors are often college‑educated volunteers, but it is not a requirement to have a college degree to be a mentor in our program. Mentors commit to working one‑on‑one with a student for a minimum of two years. It’s a hybrid program: mentors write to their mentee once per week (remote) and meet once per month at the mentee’s school (in‑person) during the school year.

Responsibilities
  • Write to the mentee once per week remotely.
  • Meet the mentee once per month at the mentee’s school during the school year.
  • Commit to a minimum of two‑year relationship with a student.
Getting Started

Your next step in becoming a mentor is to attend an iMentor orientation. During orientation you will learn more about the program, our students, and the volunteer experience.

See you at an orientation soon. We thank you for your interest and ultimately for your commitment to making a difference in the life of one of our incredible students.
