Description
Do you want to work on projects that assist the state of California move towards clean energy future? The California Energy Commission (CEC) is looking for an engineering or environmental science student assistant to work in the Compliance, Monitoring, and Enforcement unit. Students with experience and courses in the fields detailed in the requirements section below are encouraged to apply.
Conditions of EmploymentThis is a part‑time, temporary, non‑benefited, student position. Employment is dependent upon mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the employee, and may be terminated by either party at any time. A pre‑employment background check such as employment history, references, criminal check, educational verification or DMV clearance may be conducted. Students may hold only one UEI job at a time and must reside in California.
Students must be enrolled in at least six‑semester units (undergraduate) or four‑semester units (graduate). Majors in Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, Biology, Public Policy and Administration, Political Science, Natural Sciences or related fields are desired.
Work ScheduleFlexible workdays and hours:
Monday—Friday, 8 AM–5 PM. Student assistants typically work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
$17.70 – $28.56 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications- Good standing with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Complete required units each term; proof provided at the end of Spring and Fall.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills.
- Experience with Adobe, Microsoft products or other statistical tools and webpage content updates.
- Ability to work approximately 20–24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during the summer.
- Priority given to individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by California Government Code section 18220. Documentation required.
- Assist in compiling metrics for the unit.
- Review and update webpages.
- Create presentations.
- Participate in routine compliance activities, including processing petitions to amend.
- Perform general office duties such as formatting documents.
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in a remote environment under UEI’s remote workplace policy. Employees must sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The supervisor may unilaterally terminate the work‑from‑home option.
