Assistant Director for the Accessibility Testing Center & Online Student Supports

The Assistant Director for the Accessibility Testing Center & Online Student Supports is responsible for managing the Accessibility Testing Center, supporting the Director of Accessibility & Student Inclusion in providing accommodations for students, and for providing supports for online students via a case management model. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the director in hosting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice programs.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for being highly organized, a strong communicator, and an avid campus collaborator.

Essential Functions:

  • I. Accessibility Testing Center responsibilities:
    • Operational Management
    • Oversee scheduling, proctoring, and administration of accommodated exams.
    • Ensure secure handling and return of exams to faculty.
    • Maintain accurate records of testing appointments and accommodations.
  • II. Student Staff Supervision:
    • Hire, train, and supervise testing center staff and student workers.
    • Develop and implement training on accessibility protocols and confidentiality.
  • III. Student Support:
    • Serve as a point of contact for students with testing accommodations.
    • Collaborate with Disability Services to ensure accommodations are implemented appropriately.
    • Address student concerns and provide guidance on testing procedures.
  • IV. Faculty Collaboration:
    • In consultation with the Director, communicate with faculty regarding exam logistics and accommodation requirements.
    • Provide guidance on accessible exam formats and delivery.
  • V. Compliance and Accessibility:
    • Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504, and university policies.
    • Stay current with best practices in accessible testing and assistive technologies.
  • vi. Technology and Systems:
    • Manage scheduling and tracking systems
    • Coordinate with IT to ensure assistive technology is available and functional.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: A Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, rehabilitation highly preferred. Bachelor's degree in a related field and additional years of related experience may substitute for required education.
  • Experience:

    A minimum of one-two years of professional experience administering programs and support services to disabled students and diversity, equity, and inclusion work is required.
  • Skills/Aptitude: A strong working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion work are necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing disability documentation, conducting interactive processes to determine and provide reasonable accommodations.
  • Additional requirements include the ability to work autonomously, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong collaboration, and strong organizational skills. Experience with assistive technology and software. Demonstrated ability to work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds. Candidates will have knowledge of the mission of the University and a demonstrated commitment and understanding of the service orientation of Notre Dame of Maryland University.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.) required. Proficiency with sign language is preferred.
  • Working Conditions:

    Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.

VI. Other Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Responsible Employee (RE). A RE is required to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator.
