Pay Range

Pay Range $1,483.20 - $1,751 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description

The Department of Drama within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach DRA 219 Introduction to Scene Study, a three-credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026. There are three sections open.

Course

Description:

Application of acting fundamentals to objective-driven scenes from contemporary drama. Skill-building towards responsible independent collaboration using inclusive work by diverse artists.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200.Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years teaching acting at the college level.
  • Advanced or terminal degree (or equivalent professional experience) desirable.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
  • Expertise in a diverse range of voices in contemporary and historical theatre.
Responsibilities
  • Teaching class two times a week for 110 minutes each session.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • If unable to attend class due to illness or emergency, exercise best effort to reschedule the class or obtain a substitute.
  • Notify the department chair of absence and plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
