Pay Range

$1,483.20 - $1,751 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description

The School of Design within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part‑time Instructor to teach MUS 500.1 Special Topics:
Gallery Exhibition Development a three‑credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026. This course focuses on the ideation, curatorship, program development, and management of an exhibition to be installed at The VPA Warehouse Gallery at the Nancy Cantor Warehouse. This practical course will provide hands‑on experience in exhibition management and development, with special focus on engaging with living artists. Additional experience with exhibition design, loan processes, and public programming may be included.

Qualifications
  • MFA or MA in Art History, Arts Management, or other related experience.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Candidate must have experience managing exhibition spaces and curatorial experience working with living artists.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, and a working knowledge of institutional exhibition spaces is a must.
  • Direct access to a gallery or museum space is required.
  • Experience in managing artwork loans and gallery management, including the development of exhibition programming and budget, is desired.
  • Extensive knowledge of exhibition design and installation methodology required.
Responsibilities
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
