Job Summary
- Independently administer and implement university and/or department admissions policies and procedures.
- Read and evaluate admissions applications from assigned geographical regions. Apply discretion and independent judgment in deciding which qualified students should be presented to the committee for possible admission.
- Handle inquiries from prospective students, applicants, parents, secondary school administrators, and the general public in assigned geographical regions.
- Develop and nurture relationships with alumni/ae interviewers. Devise regional interview process procedure. Guide alumni/ae on how to conduct successful applicant interviews.
- Answer and respond to inquiries and concerns of applicants and students, both admitted and rejected, from assigned geographical area.
- Provide information and advice about Harvard College and admissions procedures through information sessions conducted in‑person and online. Travel may be undertaken independently or as joint travel with other institutions.
- Assist in planning and/or facilitate virtual and in‑person recruitment and yield events; participate in on‑campus admitted student events.
- Additional administrative responsibilities as needed.
- Work may be performed primarily remotely, but will require in‑person attendance for activities, such as new hire onboarding, recruitment trips, fall staff orientation, and spring yield activities. (
Note:
The office does not reimburse employees for commuting/lodging expenses related to on‑campus activities.) - Travel and night/weekend work may be required.
- This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (including, but not limited to, CT, MA, ME, NH, NY, NJ, RI, and VT).
- Work will require sitting, near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time, lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience
- Ability to work well under pressure and strong time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Problem solving and analytical skills, independent initiative, excellent judgment, and ability to keep information confidential.
- Strong customer service and communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to interact with diverse populations and make presentations to large groups.
- Proficiency with office productivity and collaboration software, as well as business applications, a must.
- Prior application reading experience helpful.
- Application review is conducted online, sometimes remotely; each reader is expected to have reliable Internet access.
