Position OverviewThe Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is a dynamic and exciting place to work. This position offers an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students as part of the Outreach and Recruitment team responsible for recruiting prospective students to the university. The Admissions Counselor reports to an Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment and will be located in the Student Academic Services Building, working closely with a team of approximately 30 full‑time staff members and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55.
Peak seasons are typically August through May. Work hours are in a hybrid model (3 days in office, 2 days work from home) from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require early‑morning, evening, and weekend hours to support outreach and recruitment programs in varying international time zones.
- Manage a recruitment territory (e.g., Columbus) and execute specific recruitment activities and events in collaboration with partner offices using data, reports, and analysis tools/technology.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with high schools, community‑based organizations, and community colleges.
- Travel to high schools, community colleges, and college fairs to represent The Ohio State University; travel may be up to 10 weeks per year, including 3–4 consistent weeks in a given semester.
- Make recruitment calls to prospective students.
- Monitor a territory‑specific budget and analyze prospective student data.
- Learn and use the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA) system, CRM (Salesforce), Student Information System (People Soft), and other technologies to perform timely and accurate entries into databases regarding student application information, call/email activity, and other processes, performing data validation and managing electronic workflows.
- Advise and correspond with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding undergraduate admissions policies, procedures, and general information via phone, email, and in person.
- Conduct large- and small‑group presentations and research and resolve problems as needed.
- Assist with on‑campus and off‑campus recruitment events and projects.
- Coordinate recruitment for special programs, such as transfer, veterans, and College Credit Plus, and provide support to access and other campus programs and initiatives.
- Review applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population) and make admissions recommendations through the holistic application review process.
- Participate in Undergraduate Admissions team committees and complete special assignments or other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate field.
• Familiarity with office desktop technology.
• Early‑morning, evening, and weekend hours are required.
DesiredEducation and Experience
• 1–2 years of work experience at a college or university; admissions preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate, plan and implement programs, and maintain excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Conflict resolution skills, knowledge of data interpretation, and experience with CRM and other recruitment technology platforms.
Additional InformationSalary range for this position is $17.50 – $18.99 per hour. The offer will be within this range based on internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
