High School Teacher
- Music

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions.

High School teachers carry a caseload of both content and homeroom students. They meet with content students throughout the week in their virtual classrooms to provide standards-based direct and targeted instruction that meets the needs of the students. Teachers support students in coursework, offer additional one-to-one support, and provide feedback and grade work within three days of submission. They build lasting relationships with their homeroom students through daily homeroom sessions, consistent outreach throughout the school year with direct contact on a monthly basis, monitor attendance, progress, and engagement, as well as providing interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and continue learning.

We do our best to assign homeroom students locally, as teachers are required to plan and attend in person outings and events. All teachers communicate regularly with learning coaches and families via telephone, web conferencing, and email. Teachers hold parent/teacher/student conferences quarterly, attend virtual meetings, and participate in PLCs, data conferencing, and professional development, both virtually and in-person. Teachers may meet with their students face-to-face for tutoring and at other in-person opportunities.

All teachers are required to proctor state testing.

Full time teachers work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during contracted hours. Full Time High School Teachers:
Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 3 years of experience in California. We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with any of the California Virtual Academies may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer.

We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school's pioneering mission and approach.

Our Virtual High School Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives.
