About The California Virtual Academies And Tk-8 Teacher Positions:
The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily, complete all assignments, and attend required live instructional sessions. K12, Inc. is our curriculum provider. Teachers meet with students daily in virtual classrooms to provide standards-based targeted instruction that meets the needs of the students, as well as support students in coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, provide feedback, and grade student work.

Teachers build lasting relationships with their students through consistent outreach throughout the school year and monitor attendance and engagement. Additionally, teachers provide interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and grow academically. Teacher's classes are generally made up of a single grade level in either elementary (K-5) or middle school (6-8) students. Teachers are required to connect virtually with students once per month at a minimum and attend/coordinate in-person events once per quarter.

All teachers are required to proctor state testing which may be in-person or virtual.

Please Note:

Although K-8 teachers can be assigned a grade span of elementary or middle school, all interested applicants will need to be willing to teach all grades, K-8.

Hours And Salary Information:
Full time teachers work Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours. Full Time TK-8 Teachers:
Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 3 years of experience in California We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with any of the California Virtual Academies may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer.

We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Elementary Overview:
Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school's pioneering mission and approach.

Summary:

Our teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs. The teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content both online and in person.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Know and understand the curriculum for assigned grade level(s). Provide students with quarterly assignments via an Individualized Learning Plan, and discuss assignments with students/Learning Coaches regularly. Instruct individual, small group, and whole groups of students online on a daily basis based upon formal and informal assessment data. Conduct in-person and/or virtual meetings every quarter or as required with parents/responsible adults and students to assess each student's progress, learning style, and any other academic, social, or developmental issues.
