About Open Literacy

40% of fourth graders in this country read below grade level. At Open Literacy, our mission is to change that, one student at a time. We offer a suite of products and services designed to meet students and educators where they are: a purchasable reading curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, Tier 2 intervention support for classroom educators, and high-impact, individualized Tier 3 tutoring.

We don't just teach reading. We grow readers.

We're looking for passionate, certified educators to join our tutoring team and make a real difference in children's literacy outcomes across the country.

The Role

The Tutor Session Monitor is a critical behind-the-scenes role that keeps Open Literacy's tutoring program running smoothly every day. Reporting to the Director of Tutor Operations, you'll monitor live tutoring sessions, respond to tutor emergencies and technical issues in real time, and step in to teach when needed. During lighter hours, you'll also take on small operations tasks to support the broader team.

Here's what makes this role unique: some shifts will call on you to think and move fast, but many shifts are quiet, and you're paid for every minute of them. If you're a certified educator looking for flexible, remote work that keeps you connected to students and teaching without the demands of a full classroom, this role is for you. You should be someone who thrives under pressure, thinks on their feet, and takes pride in making sure students always have a great experience, even when things don't go as planned.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring daily tutoring session logins and flagging issues in real time
  • Responding to tutor emergencies and no-shows, including stepping in to deliver tutoring sessions as needed
  • Providing technical support to tutors on an as-needed basis
  • Completing small operations tasks during lighter hours to support the team
Why Work With Us

Fully Remote All you need is a reliable device, strong Wi-Fi, and a quiet workspace.

You're Paid to Be Available Whether your shift is buzzing or calm, your time is compensated.

Competitive Pay $28/hour, consistent with our tutoring rate.

Onboarding & Support All Tutor Session Monitors complete a comprehensive paid onboarding before the tutoring launch in September, as well as ongoing support from the Operations and Learning Teams.

Breaks Aligned with Typical School-Year Schedules Like tutors, Tutor Session Monitors receive a week off at Thanksgiving, approximately two weeks off during the winter, and summers off.

  • Comfortable stepping into a tutoring session with little to no advance notice
  • Available Monday-Thursday during daytime hours
  • Able to commit to a consistent, reliable schedule of 8-20 hours per week
  • U.S. work authorization, U.S. mailing address, and ability to receive U.S. bank deposits
  • Reliable computer with camera and microphone, high-speed internet, and a quiet workspace
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills (with guidance) and comfort navigating digital platforms
