Student Success Specialist, College of Law

The University of Arizona's College of Law invites you to apply for the role of Student Success Specialist. In this role, you will provide support in a variety of student services and student affairs areas within the College of Law. The College of Law is committed to providing students with a continuum of support to help them achieve success in law school, on the bar exam, and in practice.

The Academic and Bar Exam Success Team provides individual counseling, course offerings, and data-driven programming designed to help students develop study skills, improve their confidence, and hone the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for the study and practice of law.

In this position, you will support the College's academic success and bar exam preparation programs by providing individualized academic counseling, skills instruction, and bar exam support. You will assist with the design and execution of academic and bar exam success support programs for students and graduates, participate in the design and execution of skills workshops, provide student advising, and teach one or more academic success and/or bar exam preparation-related courses, as necessary.

You will also provide student advising services with respect to academic planning, course selection, and course registration, in coordination with the College's Assistant Registrars.

This position is not eligible for out of state employment or remote work. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Academic Counseling

  • Meet one-on-one with students to assess academic performance and learning strategies.
  • Assist students in developing effective approaches to case reading, outlining, and exam preparation; diagnose challenges related to time management, issue spotting, outlining, and other related skills.
  • Provide targeted support to students experiencing academic difficulty and connect students with appropriate College and/or University resources to support their needs.
  • Working with the Assistant Registrars, advise students with respect to academic planning, choosing courses, and registering for courses.

Workshops & Instruction

  • Design and deliver workshops on topics such as legal analysis, issue spotting, outlining, and exam writing.
  • Assist in teaching or co-teaching academic success and/or bar exam preparation courses and workshops, as needed.
  • Develop tutorial and instructional materials, including practice exercises and guides.

Bar Exam Preparation Support

  • Support administration of bar exam success programming for students and graduates.
  • Counsel students and graduates on bar exam study strategies and timelines.
  • Track student and graduate engagement and progress in bar exam preparation activities.

Program Support & Administration

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of programming and events.
  • Help maintain records related to student and graduate participation and outcomes.
  • Perform data reporting and maintain official records for ABA accreditation purposes.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with College-wide student services and student affairs professionals, associate deans, assistant deans, and faculty with respect to student success.
  • Interface with the College's Assistant Registrars, supporting that office with respect to student academic counseling matters and other seasonal peak duties as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing assessment and improvement of academic support and bar exam success initiatives.
  • Provide supervision of student worker(s).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, accessible terms. Strong interpersonal and coaching skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Demonstrated ability to adapt instructional and communication approaches to support a variety of learning styles and educational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
