Position Summary:
The adapted physical education teacher provides specialized assessment, instruction, and consultation for students with a wide range of disabilities who require a specialized program in physical education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
Completes thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and eligibility evaluations within school, state, and federal guidelines and develops legally compliant assessment reports and IEP.Utilizes comprehensive assessment results in developing appropriate IEP goals and objectives to accommodate the wide variety of individual needs of each student.Participates as a member of the IEP team to develop IEP goals, objectives, adaptations, accommodations, modifications, and services; implement and monitor the IEP.Provides individualized and small group instruction based on the needs of the students.Consults with teachers and parents regarding typical gross motor development and appropriate accommodations and/or modifications.Maintains accurate documentation as required by law and district policy. Maintains records of student progress and measures progress toward achieving goals and objectives as stated on the IEP.Designs and implements effective positive behavior management strategies to ensure appropriate behavior of students relative to the participation of gross motor activities.Attends IEP meetings, professional development training as well as other meetings as requested.Consults with special education and general education teachers regarding gross motor accommodations and/or modifications as well as specially designed activities.Provides in-service training for staff as requested.Other Duties:
Refers all formal disciplinary actions involving students and staff to school management ensuring compliance with the school's Uniform Complaint Policy and the school's Uniform Technology Policy; addressing and resolving complaints from students, parents, and staff in a timely manner; and complying with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)Services students during normal business hours unless prior approval has been extended by supervisorPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS GUIDE

A valid, current, and appropriate California adapted physical education credential. A copy of the credential to be provided and kept current.Other

State and federal fingerprint clearance (Live Scan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance.Proof of a clear TB Tine test or signed Certificate of Completion dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four yearsThe employee is expected to acquire and maintain a working computer with an internet connection and a printer.Hold and maintain a valid California Driver's License; proof of automobile insurance; and full time use of a dependable automobile that is insured pursuant to California regulations.Knowledge:
