Description

Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition-free, full-time virtual school for students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia. The school is authorized by the Georgia Charter Schools Commission and governed by an independent Board of Directors, with a mission to maximize academic achievement for students who are seeking other academic options. The school is operated by Georgia Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Georgia, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services.

Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and GACA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.

Position Summary

Working from the Duluth, Georgia, office and from your home office within Georgia, members of the student accountability team at Georgia Connections Academy will assist "at risk" students and parents/learning coaches with remaining compliant with their Student Academic Accountability Plans including adherence to assigned interventions, lesson completion, academic integrity, and live lesson attendance. The advisory teacher will be the point of contact for student concerns that span multiple subject areas as well as non-academic issues affecting the student's success  advisory teacher will become an expert on school regulations and policies pertaining to attendance and participation for students.

All GACA teachers and staff must be able to regularly participate in required in-person activities that may require overnight travel throughout the state of Georgia, including but not limited to:

  • School and department meetings
  • Student engagement events
  • Professional development and required training
  • State testing, End-of-Pathway testing, and all in-person summative and formative assessments
  • Graduation and other school-level events

Teachers may also be required to support virtual administration of assessments, as scheduled by the school.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Advise students and families regarding academic success, onboarding, and academic interventions.
  • Advise students and families regarding issues pertaining to participation, lesson completion, attendance, academic interventions, and Student academic accountability plans.
  • Work with school teams to identify and help families access school and community resources.
  • Identify students who are "at risk" or "in crisis" and act as a point of contact for these families communicating regularly.
  • Oversee and maintain the Student Academic Accountability Plan (SAAP).
  • Support families through the school withdrawal process, assisting with data collection regarding withdrawal.
  • Report and refer to critical incidences that jeopardize student well being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards. Stay abreast of all state regulations relating to incident reporting and documentation.
  • Assist teachers with mid-semester enrollment ensuring integration into courses is seamless.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in education or higher degree

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE

Georgia Clearance Certificate

Valid Georgia teaching certification

REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess a Georgia teaching certification
  • Must have a Clearance Certificate through the Department of Education or be able to obtain one within the first 30 days of the first day of hire.
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Highly organized and punctual
  • Student and family-focused approach
  • Experience in teaching or supporting Title I schools
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
