Job Description - BIO
453 Ecology Laboratory, 3 credits, Fall 2026 (appointment starts August 17, 2026) This course addresses the process of ecological research. Labs and field trips emphasize student-driven hypothesis generation and project design, statistical analysis, scientific writing, data presentation and literature reading. Lectures focus on ecosystems, communities and global change. This course meets in-person on the SU Campus. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Responsibilities
- Part-time Instructor duties will include the following:
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors.
