Position: LEO Lecturer I for Fall 2026

Lecturer I Position

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position % effort for the Fall Term 2026. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25th, 2026 and end on December 31st, 2026.

Duties of this Lecturer I position is expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours.

Course Title(s):
Psych 466 The Origins of Moral Behavior

Course Objectives:
This 3 credit upper-level writing and elective course in Psychology covers questions that have motivated research in the behavioral sciences, investigating the origins and development of moral judgment. Students will read recent articles and books by some of the most eloquent scientists in the field who are able to make their research accessible to the wider public. This course is discussion-based, with the goal of bringing new ideas to bear on tricky questions that are still unresolved.

Emphasis is put on reading original literature, writing discussion questions in preparation for class, and engagement in lively discussions. Psych 466 meets in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30am - 1pm throughout the Fall 2026 term.

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in psychology, or a closely related field. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching developmental psychology.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
