Position Summary
The Colorado State Library is seeking a Continuing Education Senior Consultant to spearhead statewide training and professional development programs. The role is a subject‑matter expert, consulting with local libraries, analyzing program data for continuous growth, and representing Colorado in national forums.
Work Environment- Full‑time, fully funded by federal funds (contingent upon available funding).
- Hybrid work environment available.
- Extended hours during evenings or weekends may be required.
- Up to 20% travel within Colorado for meetings, training, and consultations; may include overnight stays.
- Remote (home) office required; must report to work location per business needs.
- Essential functions (ADAAA):
- Medium/Office‑work site: sit, view a computer screen, use keyboard and mouse for extended periods.
- Lift up to 10 lb. constantly, 20 lb. frequently, or 50 lb. occasionally if lifting boxes of 10 lb. or more.
- Requires bending, stooping, pushing, walking, squatting, climbing as needed.
- May involve inclement weather, extreme temperatures, high elevations, or noise.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license required to safely operate a motor vehicle or Colorado Fleet vehicle.
- Coordinate statewide professional development for library staff, prioritizing continuing education and hiring subject specialists.
- Develop, maintain, and expand online learning resources for library staff.
- Design and conduct assessment and evaluation for continuing education for public, school, and academic libraries.
- Partner with outside agencies on professional development opportunities.
- Evaluate technologies to improve training and learning.
- Analyze data from continuing education activities to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide consultation on user experience design, instructional design, and presentation tools.
- Continue expanding expertise on library trends through self‑directed learning and attendance at regional, state, and national meetings.
- Lead by staying current with adult learning principles and guiding others in instructional design.
- Manage and distribute all State Library continuing education resources and partner materials.
- Oversee and refine web content for accessibility standards.
- Create curated digital and physical learning materials for library professionals.
- Participate as a library development team member to establish and accomplish unit goals.
- Share new learning with State Library colleagues to identify collaboration opportunities.
- Seek opportunities to partner across Colorado Department of Education units and other state library agencies.
- Six (6) years of experience only, or a combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years.
- Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited institution.
- At least six (6) years of relevant professional library experience.
- At least four years of demonstrated experience in training, adult education, or project management.
- Professional experience designing and facilitating training for adult learners.
- Professional experience presenting at conferences/workshops; formal or informal mentoring experience.
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and virtual/instructor‑led training tools.
- Awareness of library service issues and trends.
- Comprehensive understanding of adult learning strategies.
- Proficiency in growth mindset, assets‑based coaching, design thinking, and community systems building.
- Requirements for creating accessible training and documents.
- Designing and facilitating in‑person, virtual, and blended training and presentations.
- Project planning, management, and evaluation including grant projects.
- Mastery of MS Office (Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Mastery of Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms).
- Mastery of video call, webinar, and virtual conferencing platforms.
- Analyzing data and using results to inform project planning.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a remote/hybrid environment.
