Adjunct Instructor Of Visual Arts

Kilgore College is seeking a passionate and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Visual Arts to join its Visual and Performing Arts Department. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction to students from diverse backgrounds while fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The instructor may teach a variety of college-level visual arts courses, including but not limited to Art Appreciation, Drawing, Design, Painting, 2-D and 3-D Design, Studio Art, and other foundational art courses.

Teaching assignments may be offered in multiple formats, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and dual credit courses taught at area high schools.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned visual arts courses in accordance with Kilgore College curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction in Art Appreciation and studio-based art courses.
  • Collaborate with Visual Arts faculty and department leadership to support student success and program goals.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, projects, critiques, and assessments that meet course objectives.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and artwork.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and artistic growth.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of studio facilities, equipment, and materials when teaching studio courses.
  • Stay current with developments in art education, contemporary artistic practices, and instructional technology.
  • Support college policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
  • When assigned, deliver dual credit instruction at partnering high schools while adhering to both Kilgore College and dual credit program requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Art, Studio Art, Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a closely related field, OR
  • A Master's degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Visual Arts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of visual arts instruction, including studio art and/or art history/appreciation.
  • Teaching experience at the college level, secondary level, or in a comparable educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to teach Art Appreciation and foundational studio art courses.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire creativity and engagement among students with varying levels of artistic experience.
  • Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and inclusive teaching practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching dual credit courses or working with high school students.
  • Experience teaching in multiple instructional formats, including online and hybrid delivery.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional technologies.
  • Professional artistic practice, exhibition record, or related creative work.

Salary Range & Fringe Benefits:

  • Salary for adjunct faculty members is based upon level of education and range from $1,900 per 3-hour course for a master's degree to $2,100 per 3-hour course for a doctorate.

Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.
