Schedule: Up to 29 hours per week.
General Statement of Duties: The Academic Success Center at Worcester State University seeks a student-centered and collaborative Part-Time Academic Advisor to provide academic advising and support services to undergraduate students across all disciplines. This position serves as a primary walk-in advisor, assisting students with academic planning, degree requirements, registration, major exploration, academic policies, and referrals to campus resources. The Part-Time Academic Advisor also serves as a key contact for students considering course withdrawals, University withdrawals, or leaves of absence, providing guidance, support, and assistance with the completion of required documentation.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate sensitivity to diverse student needs, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced student services environment. This position requires in-person availability and does not include remote work.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience working in higher education, student services, advising, counseling, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, active listening, and advising skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Experience using student information systems and student success technologies such as Starfish, Colleague/Datatel, Self-Service, Image Now, TES, Accuplacer, or similar platforms.
- Experience supporting student retention, persistence, and academic success initiatives.
- Experience working with students in transition, including first-year, transfer, and academically at-risk populations.

Hourly rate: $23 / hour
